Where your answers actually go

Short version: nowhere. They stay in the browser you're reading this in. Here's the longer version, because you're being asked about your sleep and your age, and you deserve to know exactly what happens to that.

Still Awake has no server storing anything about you. There is nowhere for your answers to be sent, and nowhere for anyone to request them from.

What's stored

Your test answers and sleep profile. Your night log — ratings, what you tagged, any notes you typed. Your promises and whether you kept them. Your details, if you filled them in: age range, whether you're a man or a woman, working hours, caffeine, naps, who else is in the bed, your usual bedtimes.

And your email address, if you gave one.

Where it's stored

In your browser's own storage, on the device you're using. Not on a server. Not with a hosting company. Not with me.

That has one consequence worth understanding: it doesn't follow you between devices. Do the test on your phone and it won't be on your laptop. Clear your browser data and it's gone for good, and I can't get it back for you because I never had it.

About that email address

It's used as a label so the site can tell one person's data from another's on a shared device. It isn't sent anywhere, it isn't on a mailing list, and I couldn't email you if I wanted to — there's no system behind it that could.

If that ever changes, it will say so on the screen where you type it, before you type it. Not in a document like this one that nobody reads.

Cookies and tracking

No cookies. No advertising networks, no tracking pixels, no third-party scripts watching what you do. The sounds are generated by your own browser rather than streamed, so even those don't call anywhere.

Removing everything

Sign out and clear your browser data for this site, and every trace is gone. There's no account to close and no request to file, because there's nothing on my end.

This isn't medical advice

Everything here is general information about how sleep works, written carefully and with sources. It isn't a diagnosis and it isn't treatment. If you've been sleeping badly for weeks, or you snore heavily and stop breathing, or you're exhausted no matter how long you're in bed — see a doctor. Sleep problems that last often have causes that are genuinely treatable, and guessing at them alone rarely works.

Who to ask

Still Awake is made by one person. If something here is unclear or you want to know more, ask — there's no support department to get past.

Nothing leaves your device. That's the whole policy.
